Music at Mount Olive

"I will sing with the Spirit and with understanding."

Music is a vital part of life at Mount Olive, giving people an exceptional musical experience in the context of the church’s liturgical life.

The Mount Olive Choir

The choir has been a vital part of Mount Olive’s music ministry thanks to the dedication of many long-standing choir members. The Mount Olive Choir sings on average three Sundays a month and rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00–8:30. Those interested in singing with this choir should contact Kantor Rosebrock for more information.

The Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir is a seasonal ensemble, coming together to play occasionally throughout the year. Mount Olive has a five octave set of handbells accommodating up to 15 ringers. If you are interested in ringing with the Handbell Choir please contact Kantor Rosebrock.

Schola Cantorum

The Schola Cantorum exists to give young people an exceptional musical experience in the context of the church’s liturgical life and to cultivate lifelong musicians for service in the church. Choristers are trained as young musicians, while being given an opportunity to sing wonderful repertoire and to grow in their Christian faith and Lutheran identity. This experience gives each chorister the opportunity for significant spiritual and personal growth. Participation in the Schola Cantorum also develops the choristers’ self-discipline, sense of responsibility and commitment, and strengthens each of their abilities to work with their peers.

The Schola Cantorum is a ministry of Mount Olive Lutheran Church open to any child between the ages of eight and fourteen who 1) can match pitch accurately; 2) can commit to the rehearsal and service schedule; and for boys 3) have not begun their voice change. The choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15–4:30 and sings on average once a month. Contact Kantor Rosebrock for enrollment information.

Schola Camp at Mount Olive began in the summer of 2015. This is a week-long day camp where choristers have the opportunity for daily prayer, intense rehearsals, classes in music theory and improvisation, handbells, individual voice coaching, summer activities, and a service project in the community.
