School Music
Music plays a significant role in the education of our students at Mount Olive Christian Day School.
Elementary School
- All music classes are taught by a music specialist.
- Every student in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade has music class twice a week.
- Music classes focus on teaching students the fundamentals of singing, playing instruments, music literacy, and learning a canon of hymnody.
- Throughout the year, students play rhythm instruments, and Orff instruments, learn dances, and experiment with improvisation and composing at a basic level.
- Early childhood music classes embrace First Steps in Music and elementary classes utilize John Feierabend’s Conversational Solfege to teach literacy.
Middle School
- Performance ensembles that play regularly for school services during the school day as well as at concerts.
- School Band
- School Handbell Ensemble
- Ukulele Fundamentals
- One-on-one woodwind, brass, or percussion instrumental instruction for students in 5th-8th grade.
This musical foundation established at Mount Olive sets our graduates up to participate in band, jazz band, choir, and musicals in high school. Our graduates thrive musically in high school, often participating in top ensembles beginning in their freshman year.
